How to play SA-MP on Android
More and more SA-MP players are on phones. It works well on a decent Android phone, but there is no official mobile client yet, so it is worth knowing the options and the pitfalls first.
No install: play in your phone’s browser
If you want SA-MP style multiplayer on your phone without installing anything, samp.directory has its own San Andreas that runs in the browser: open play.samp.directory in Chrome or Safari and play with touch controls, on Android or iPhone. Jobs, cars, police and gang wars, with other players, free.
It is not the SA-MP Android client and cannot join the SA-MP servers listed on this site. For those, read on.
Before you start
- There is no official SA-MP or open.mp app. Every mobile launcher is unofficial; the open.mp team has said the current SA-MP for Android is based on code taken from the SA-MP team without permission. open.mp has said it hopes to make a mobile version of its own.
- Android only. There is no working iPhone client that we know of; on an iPhone, the browser game above is what you can play.
- You need Android 7 or newer, at least 2 GB of RAM (4 GB is much smoother) and about 2 to 4 GB of free space. Use Wi-Fi: the game data download is large.
- We recommend owning GTA San Andreas for Android from Google Play. It is the official, legal copy of the game, and it is cheap.
Launchers that work
A launcher lists servers and starts the game. Installing from Google Play is the safest route.
- Alyn SA-MP Mobile: the most popular and most actively updated one (1M+ installs, updated in 2026). It works with SA-MP 0.3.7 and 0.3.DL servers, has built-in voice chat and customisable touch controls. It has in-app purchases.
- SAMP Mobile: an older alternative (500K+ installs), but rated lower and updated less often; reviewers mention crashes in long sessions.
- Server launchers: many big mobile servers have their own app that only connects to that server. Get it from the server’s official website or Discord, never from a reupload.
Pitfalls to know
- Not every server lets phones in. Some servers block or limit mobile players because the client works differently. Look for “Android” or “[PC/Android]” in the server name, or search for “android” on samp.directory.
- Apps come and go. Unofficial launchers are sometimes removed from Google Play, and a version that worked last month may stop working after an update.
- Fake launchers exist. APKs passed around in videos and chats can contain malware. Prefer Google Play, keep Play Protect on, and never type your Google, Discord or bank password into a game launcher.
- Touch controls take practice. Most launchers let you move and resize the buttons; a controller also works on many phones.
- Battery and heat: long sessions drain the battery quickly. Lowering the graphics settings helps.
Join a server
Most launchers have their own server list. To join a server from samp.directory, copy its address from the server page and add it in the launcher’s favourites or “add server” option.
